Day 995
Goldens only have expectations when food is involved! They do not seem to anticipate future events or even predict what they might find on a walk. Sam certainly did not anticipate a romp in the mud a few days ago… no regrets either!
Have you ever gifted yourself with a day without expectations? No worries about a timetable, dressing for an occasion or even what to eat (Sorry Ranger!). It is a challenge to keep a clean slate and “go with the flow”! Of course you have to move in a direction, but any direction will do!
I knew a father who would pile his sons into an old bread truck packed with a few necessities. They would decide on a direction and head that way. The three would simply experience whatever happened… no plans! That always sounded delightful to me, but my planning nature would have that truck outfitted with EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink!
However, on a smaller scale, I forced myself to take on that “bread truck mentality” and attempted to set expectstions aside today. It was quite lovely for a few hours until reality crept back in. In a way. I welcomed my old friend…after all, expectations turn into productivity and no surprises can be comforting. Still, it was fun while it lasted!
You don’t need a bread truck to be spontaneous! Perhaps a walk with no real destination. Maybe a trip to the theater where you pick the movie when you arrive. Whatever it is, try it…even for an hour. It will make the mundane seem a bit more welcome!
