Day 954

The anticipation is over and the joy of being in the present in palpable! Santa arrived, the gifts have been handed out and the meal is a memory. Some might question the weeks (months) of preparation leading up to Christmas, but I have an answer ready to share! Not only does it bring loved ones together, but the traditions of the past bring so much meaning and importance to those present and those only residing in our memories and hearts.

The antique plates belonged to my own Nanny while equal time is given to silverware sets from my mother, aunt and grandmother. The coffee cake and caramel rolls are made with love while following a well-used recipe card (the recipe comes from an ancestor who lived in Germany) and can only be appreciated if your sweet tooth is in working order! The abundance of surrounding the house with decorations and gifts is inherited from my mother… who could never do enough for her family.

Mostly, the beauty of the lights and decorations pales in comparison to the warmth I feel in my heart as loved ones gather to celebrate this beloved holiday. It is a feeling like no other.

PS. Santa was even good to the Goldens! They each found a big ‘Benebone’ in their stocking!!! They have been exceptionally good pups this year!
