Day 953

Ranger and I headed over to Mercy to lighten some heavy hearts this morning. Nobody wants to be there on Christmas Eve, so our big guy set to work to bring a few smiles to faces that exuded sadness. He was a success!

Mostly hanging by the elevators, we had more than a few opportunities to follow family members up the elevator to see their loved one. Even though we can’t go into every room, we can comfort those waiting outside the doors. One, in particular, was tough. The family had gathered to say goodbye to their special person. We could only be there to offer comfort…and Ranger did just that. We even hung out with the staff for a while and had almost a dozen of them take turns hugging our boy…each one thanked us. Of course, we thanked them in return…they give so much of themselves.

Once we got in the car, I turned and looked at my Golden boy. I actually asked him if he thought we made a difference today. His look of pure love gave me his answer.

We became part of the humanity trying to help those who were hurting in body and soul. Joining together, and all taking on a small load, the nurses, doctors and other individuals who showed kindness DID lighten the load of those who needed that support today.

Before I started the car, I wiped away a few tears and looked at Ranger again. Scratching that big head, I said, “Ranger, you sweet boy… you brightened this day for so many. With your offer of pure love, you brought smiles to the faces of those who might not have found any joy today. Well done, my Therapy Dog…well done!”
