Day 925
Having a “Bone Break” is a glorious diversion for my Goldens! A pan of bones plus four Goldens, equals a moment of peace for their Mama! Always by my side, or in my “wake," it is nice to sit in blissful peace for a minute or two!
Lilly spent part of the morning with our dear friends at Walker and then Mr. Ranger headed over to Mercy to soothe some nervous souls. More than one person told me how visiting with our Golden Boy calmed them down so very much!
When it is time to go, Ranger lets me know. He will gently nudge my hand or even offer a “whisper bark” to communicate that we are now finished with the visit! There is no arguing with that big guy!
On our way to the exit, a couple rounded the corner from the Emergency Room. The older lady was softly crying while the younger man consoled her. Of course, when they saw Ranger, they gravitated our way. Wiping her eyes, the woman let us know that she had a dog at home and Ranger was just what she needed at this moment. She explained that her husband had been brought in after suffering a stroke, and it was not looking good.
I had known this woman for all of 30 seconds and yet I knew she had a son, a very ill husband and a dog. Looking into her eyes, I asked for her first name so that I could keep her in my heart. 45 seconds after meeting her, she put her arms out and we shared a long hug. After only a minute, Becky told me that our connection was a gift and she would never forget me.
We spend years building relationships based on trust and love, yet in our 60 seconds together, we had bonded. Amazing! Of course, we would have simply crossed paths if not for a Therapy Dog. Those Goldens are magnets of love and safety.
Becky has been in my heart all day and will not soon be forgotten. She also left me with a lesson…”Be on the lookout for those who need someone. We can all make a difference if we open our hearts.”
