Day 923
The love and affection these boys have for one another warms my heart. They trust each other implicitly and are unhappy when separated for even the shortest time. Lilly tolerates the younger two, adores Ranger and gives a warning to the younger two who sometimes need to be reminded that she is the queen!
Although not brothers at birth, Sam and Gus have developed a bond that is strong and unbreakable. They are devoted to each other. Thinking back in time, Gus put up with Sam's shenanigans for about a year before they became fast friends and brothers. Sometimes, it takes a patient older sibling to make the relationship work.
We all have found our own chosen siblings throughout the years. These people are treasured because they are not tied to us by genetics...only by our hearts. That makes them a true gift indeed.
I look at my Goldens and see so many of the same traits that make a deep chosen sibling friendship. They are forgiving, engaging and loving to a fault. When one of the boys accidently ploughs down another in a game of "Run Around the Gazebo," the injured party rises up, shakes off the situation and resumes the game.
With people, there is often a different ending. Once a mistake is made or there might be the illusion of "ploughing another down," shaking off the incident and resuming the relationship is more of a challenge. Some people tend to nurse their wounds instead.
If we could simply shake off those moments of angst with our fellow humans and be more doglike in our reactions, this world would be a kinder place. Perhaps the goal might be to take that pause (if not an actual shake from head to tail) and decide it just isn't that big a deal. The other "pup" probably didn't mean to "plough me down," so just move forward and hope it was simply an accident.
Simply being around my Goldens makes me a better person. I do learn from the way they greet life and living. Today's lesson might just be to rise up and shake off those things that do not matter in the long run. Also, a heartfelt gratitude should be embraced for all of those chosen siblings who go "around the gazebo" and only offer love at the end of the romp...they are treasures indeed.
