Day 865
Today, Ranger was chosen to go to Norbella. A favorite spot for all three Therapy Dogs, Lilly and Gus looked on with sad eyes as Ranger and I made our exit. They either know where we are going or simply want to be included!
Arriving on time, the two of us headed for the door. My sidekick could hardly contain himself as we entered due to sweet memories of residents with treats! We started our visit in Memory Care where our friends awaited.
One special resident seems to be there due to a head injury in the past. Charming, funny, intelligent and quirky, this gal draws the dogs and me immediately to her side, As we entered, I saw our friend help an older lady move from her walker to a chair. Commenting on her kind act, I told her that I had noticed the other lady’s smile of thanks.
My friend said, “Well, when I was little, I was taught to help people whenever possible. It is my feeling that we are put here on earth to ease the way for others.”
I was humbled by her words and carried them with me throughout our visit and all the way home. What resonated so deeply within my heart was that she spoke of “kindness to others” as if it were a part of her reason to exist. It was as if she had this amazing gift to offer without any thought of reciprocation! Living in Memory Care, unable to go where she might choose or do what she would like, she still jumps at a chance to help others. No bitterness because of her situation, no complaining… only a heart to serve others.
She made me a better person today. I will not forget her message. If we all believed that we were put here on earth to ease other’s burdens, what a lovely world we would have.
