Day 864
My Goldens are always alert! Ready to respond to anything that moves, smells or makes a noise, the Golden Crew is prepared! With eyes, ears and noses inclined towards anything different, they are truly my early warning system.
My senses are quite attuned to worldly intake, but not even close to what my pups experience! Sitting on the front porch, The Goldens will alert me to any approaching changes. Starting with a low growl, they crescendo to a chorus that sends shock waves through the neighborhood! A hasty retreat through the front door usually keeps me from seeing the unsuspecting victim of their alarm!
Being alert seems to be on a continuum of human capabilities. For example, my dear husband can be oblivious to certain occurrences that might be important! If I see a cat approaching as we walk the dogs, he will finally realize we need to reroute quickly. For that reason, I am happy to be vigilant and avoid a scene. Other times, being overly aware can take the joy out of an experience!
Finding the right balance eludes me. Hopefully, there will come a time in my life when I am able enjoy the big picture without paying to much attention to the worrisome details along the way.
For once, I cannot learn from my Goldens…even their shadows can be a cause for disruption!
