Day 852
Sammy and I had a slumber party last night! Much like those gatherings in my teenage years, “slumber” was a misnomer! My boy ate something that was not on the menu and the rest is history. We bonded ALL NIGHT! Poor baby!
By daylight, he was feeling well enough to gingerly pick at some hastily boiled chicken and seems to be on the road to recovery. The fascinating thing about Sam being anti-zoomie is that the entire energy of our home changed! Without his crazy exuberance, the house, along with all the residents, became a quiet, restful sanctuary.
I found myself examining other venues to see if a single person could possibly change the energy in that space. My conclusion was…absolutely! On a continuum from Life of the Party to Mother Teresa (a favorite of mine), individuals can set the mood.
Of course, there are times when the human equivalent of dear Sammy is just what the occasion calls for. Other times, a calm presence fits the mood. Knowing when to fit the bill of energy is a talent some people possess with ease while others fail miserably. It is an art.
My goal is to “read the room” and be the person needed at that moment. Sammy does not have (never will) that gift. However, I will be grateful to have “Mr. Exuberance” back to his old Zoomie self!!!
