Day 810
The Goldens LOVE the sunshine! With their thick coats, it always surprises me that they do not choose shade instead. Even inside the house, they can often be found sleeping in a ray of sunlight coming from a nearby window.
The sun certainly entices me to sit in its warmth from time-to-time as well. Even though research suggests we avoid too many “rays,” that sun still beckons.
The smart choice a to enjoy a healthy amount. That goes for just about anything. Throughout my lifetime, there have been times I should have listened to that wisdom.
*Eating WAY too many Sweet Martha’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and ending up in the ER where it was discovered that I had a chocolate allergy!
*Lying in the sun for hours with baby oil and “Sun-In” as my partners!
*Rollerblading ten miles before realizing that I needed to travel back ten miles!
*Eating so much popcorn that a ‘Popcorn Hangover’ was the result!
This list could go on and on, but the real question is, “Why can’t we stop?”
I like to think the need to overindulge comes from our ancestors. Whether it was when food was scarce or when hard work in the fields needed to be done, survival is a strong motivator.
The next time I feel the urge to push the limits on any behavior, I might just remember that, ancestral urges or not, overindulging never ends well! I believe I will go sit with Lilly now and pull up a chair in the shade!
