Day 745

The Rouges Gallery! When I do yard work, I have quite the cheering section!

This morning, I visited with the mower, the Weed Wacker, various garden tools, hoses and a rake. I planted, hauled, weeded and dragged the outdoor furniture into place. The entire time, my "Golden Helpers" encouraged me with barks and smiling/panting faces. If I could only train them to mow!

What is it about working in the yard? Admittedly, it is hard work, but the process is so cathartic. With our massive yard, the end result is never quite reached, but the journey is the real accomplishment.

When new roads were put in on both sides of The Big White House a few years ago, we got to know the foreman quite well. Dave was amazing through a messy process. When our 100-plus-year-old wall had to go, Mac and I decided to haul it up for landscaping. Dave drove by and asked what we were doing and, before we knew it, he was heaving the huge stones up in the yard as well.

The responsibility of the expense of replacing the wall was yet to be determined. The crew was digging a new Grand Canyon in the street when I realized there was an odor creeping up from the basement. Upon further inspection, volumes of extremely suspicious material were flowing into our basement. I ran out, alerted Dave and he sent a crew in to help clean. Stepping outside for a moment, Dave waved and offered a 'thumbs up'. He had been on the phone to 'The Powers That Be' and explained the mess and how it occurred. They told him to "Help clean up the disaster and give that Lady her wall!"

Whether it is gardening, planting flowers or getting a new stone wall, we all like our yards to look nice. While Walking With Goldens, I get to enjoy everyone's commitment to their own yards and they are beautiful! Lucky us!
