Day 744
Today was a whirlwind! Walking dogs, Walker Senior Care Center and Asher's sweet Kindergarten Musical Event were all a joy! Tucked in-between all of the happiness was a funeral. One of my most special Walker friends had lost his wife.
Last night, I received a long text from my friend about the day ahead. He reiterated the schedule, talked about family dynamics and then ended with..."Please stay close to my side tomorrow. Don't leave me. I need you close by."
Arriving at the venue, I found my friend and immediately went to him. He looked so happy and relieved as we hugged and visited. After a few minutes, I made my way towards another friend to allow others to visit.
This gave me the freedom to observe the interactions of the family gathered there. Many, at odds with each other, chose to avoid their family members and avert their attention in the opposite direction. How sad.
Weaving in and out, I offered as much love and affection as possible. He just wanted me near.
My Goldens are the same way. They just want to be close.
There are times and people who give me comfort when I need it. They know who they are and, more importantly, I know who they are. What a gift it is to find comfort in a hug, a word or even silent companionship.
Being there is one of the kindest things one can offer...the most beautiful to receive. My Goldens would agree.
