Day 721

Music bridges language, age, background and evidently species. When I sit down at the piano, by the third or fourth measure, my Goldens have begun to gather. By the second song, they are all blissfully relaxed and seem to be enjoying every chord. When the concert is over, they actually lift their heads as if to say, "Encore, please."

Music has been such a part of my existence throughout my entire life. When I was in elementary school, the only piano we had was in the basement. Our renters, at the time, were an amazing young couple...the only downside was the husband taught music. He would open the door and call out my mistakes. "F sharp!!!! B flat!!!!". At the time, it was daunting, but I grew to love that couple and appreciate their part of my journey.

Florence Ward was my dance instructor for years. She was a bit gruff, but we learned our routines. After dancing for almost 15 years, I can't remember any of the steps, but the music remains in my heart.

Band was "instrumental" in my middle school, high school and college life. Starting out with the snare and bridging over to marimba, I could hardly wait to walk into the band room. Lucky enough to be a student when the transition, from "drummers" to "percussionists," took hold, I loved being a part of something so beautiful. Our band was amazing, but the band members were even more special. Good people...dedicated, talented and fun, my best memories of high school are musically entwined in their hands.

Now, music is everywhere with the addition of technology. What a wonderful thing progress can be! It is throughout the house on Alexa, in the cars, on the computer...you can't get away from it, but who would want to?

Still, when all is said and done, the piano is my favorite...perhaps it's the audience?
