Day 652
Mr. Ranger...reporting for duty! Mercy Hospital needed this big Golden today!
Ranger's time at Mercy was spent:
*Checking in
*Stop at the Credit Union for a withdrawal of treats
*Sister Kenny visit to see staff and patients
*Up to greet "Daddy" at the information desk
*Off to Administration for his usual treats and love
*Visiting with family in the waiting rooms (The stress is palpable and Ranger calms the situation every single time.)
*Over to the Heart Wing (main floor) where he sat with a patient waiting for his ride...along with making a connection with about 50 people coming and going
*Up to 4 Heart with a request to visit a certain room (A beautiful moment!)
*Sharing love with patients and staff around the 4-Heart floor
*Down to the first floors for a round of good-byes and love
*Check out and head for the car
In the words of one doctor when I inquired how his day was going...his response was, "It sure is going better now with this sweet boy here." He stood and stroked Ranger's head for the longest time. We simply stood in silence.
Sometimes the question, "Why do you do this Therapy Dog thing?" arises. Looking back on this morning at the hospital, I know that my Goldens bring peace, hope, comfort, unconditional love and so much more to the people who need it the most. In every interaction, there is a connection. People will focus on the Golden's eyes or get lost in petting that soft fur. Whatever the experience, each and every one goes their own way with a smile and a bit more peace illuminating their faces. So lucky to be at the other end of the leash. I wouldn't have it any other way!
