Day 651
Today was one of those days where being inside was not an option! Taking long walks and simply sitting with the Goldens outside was the plan today and we loved every moment!
As we walked down by the river, it occurred to me that my pups live for the moment while I tend to plan, anticipate, experience and then reminisce. My four do not have the luxury of planning their day, since they rely on me for those plans, but when the "event" happens, they are using every sense to enjoy each moment. First Sam, and then Gus, walked along sniffing to their heart's content. Listening, watching, touching and even tasting (we try to avoid that last one!). It was evident to me that they were living in the moment and not pushing forward to see what comes next.
It is great fun to plan a vacation or adventure! Doing the research, making the reservations, dreaming about the time to come and actually heading out are all part of the joy of traveling. Looking back on the experience, through pictures and the sharing of stories, can be enjoyable as well. However, there are times, I must admit, when the actual experience flies by so fast that I can't live in the moment!
What if the true goal of an adventure was to "live in the moment?" Planning and anticipating are still part of the fun, but savoring every taste, smell, touch, sight and sound, as you live those moments, should be the true goal.
Perhaps being more diligent with writing a travel/experience journal is the answer. It might be that the pace needs to slow down instead of a frantic race to make memories. Or...the real goal might just be to be more "Golden" and enjoy every single moment as it presents itself! Now, I just need to find places that will allow four Goldens in the venue!
