Day 650

Mornings bring promise while evenings invite reflection. This morning, Sammy decided he needed some "Mama Time" at 4:10 a.m., so we snuck out to the living room to gaze at the beauty of the night. Since our other loved ones were still dreaming throughout the cottage, we quietly shared coffee (me) and ear rubs (Sam) in front of the fireplace. Soon, Lilly joined us as we all embraced the surrounding quiet. Strangely, as we waited for the sun to make its appearance, the full moon was shining on the ice...making a surreal portrait before us. The silence was truly Golden.

There have been times when the break of dawn offered hope for me, while other mornings offered an unsure pathway through the day. As I write, we have loved ones and friends who are struggling with illness or uncertain times. For those people, daybreak brings activity, people and movement in a direction. They are always close to my heart, but especially so as the sun begins to rise.

There are others who greet the morning with anticipation and excitement. These are the people who can't wait to see what the day will offer...new opportunities, adventures or reunions might be on their calendar and the waiting for night to pass is unending. As the moon fades and the light of day slowly pushes away the dark, my excitement for them is felt deeply within.

No matter what the day offers, the moments before dawn are precious and sacred. I am so glad Sam decided to wake me to share the beauty of the dawn.
