Day 634

Sanctuary! We all need these soul-feeding places in our lives. Perhaps it's your home, a room within that house, a cabin, a beloved grandmother's house, the woods, the ocean...the list, however personal, is endless.

For me, sanctuary always includes my Therapy Dogs and Mac. Having said that, The Big White House has been my lifelong safe haven. Walking through the door, my cares and concerns are lessened and I am offered a safe place to think, plan, heal or reflect. It is almost a physical reaction where the weight is lifted off my shoulders and breathing is easier. These four walls are a gift.

Another place of sanctuary was my own Nanny's house. Living right across the driveway, her door was always unlocked and welcoming. Inside (I can still recall the smells of baking, warmth and love), was this wonderful lady who always had a hug and fresh cookies waiting. Her love enveloped me, actually everyone who entered, and there was always love, safety, acceptance and support.

Perhaps that is the key to a sanctuary...love, safety, acceptance and support. Hoping upon hope that I can offer that to any friend who needs that kind of sanctuary. Offering hugs, warm cookies, safety and Goldens, I will be a cheerleader for anyone who needs to feel safe...but you have to walk through a "Sea of Golden Hair" to get in!
