Day 526
Our sweet Ranger made a special visit to Mercy today. A beloved lady was moving into a hospice placement and they felt a dog might help. Dogs almost always help and this was no exception. Ranger worked his magic and had everyone in the room smiling...especially the patient. It is always a humbling experience to watch the Goldens make a difference.
Earlier today, my dear friend Kathy and I spent a few hours helping a Walker resident (he was one of our teachers) organize and part with his numerous books. There were many and they had become a challenge for him to move around the stacks in his apartment. We went through each one and boxed most. Although the job was arduous, our fondness for our friend surpassed any feelings of frustration. He was there for us and now we have the privilege of being there for him.
Off to his church, where he had been asked to donate this first delivery of books. Arriving, we realized two things...
1. The church was not expecting this offering without an appointment.
2. There was a funeral within the hour.
As we sputtered our apologies and began to figure out a Plan B, I suddenly heard the beginning strains of the 'William Tell Overture" in my mind!!! There, walking towards us, was one of the kindest men on earth! My dear friend Tom was approaching with arms spread wide for one of his special 20 second hugs! (He has always said that hugs need to be 20 seconds for their full effect!)
He was in charge of the funeral, but jumped right in to save the day...just like The Lone Ranger! He got a large rolling cart, found a place to store all of our boxes AND helped haul them in with no hesitation!
Humbled, once again, by his generous support, I decided this world has some beautiful people and lovely serendipitous moments. I was so very thankful as we jumped back in the empty car!
This day was full of humble appreciation!
*Thank you to Ranger and his gentle ministry.
*Thank you to my husband for being my best friend in any adventure!
*Thank you to Kathy, who is ALWAYS there when you need her!
*Thank you to Tom and his unfailing support...plus his famous 20 second hugs.
I may be tired, but my heart is full!
