Day 480

Lilly and I are in the 'Dogmobile' with Mr. Mac and the boys. We are heading to the cabin for a bit of R + R with some winterizing chores thrown in for good measure. The Goldens absolutely love their Up North experience with walks, great views of the lake and smells galore!

This morning, after Walking With Goldens, it was time to head out 'Therapy Dogging." I grabbed the leash, bandana, collar and lanyard as Lilly watched with some interest. When I called her name, she looked at me as if to say, "I know it's time to hop in the car and do my thing, but perhaps I can just stay put today." I understood her feelings by her expression, but dangling the red bandana got her up on her feet. We were off!

There are times when this Energizer Bunny drags her feet. As much as I love our work, some days seem to encourage us to cancel the day. That is not an option when people are counting on you, so we headed out.

Arriving at our newest venue, Lilly came to life. Bright eyes, a swagger in her step, a wagging tail and a smile on that Golden face led me to marvel at her love for this vocation. She's quite a girl!

For me, once I walk through the door, I am 100% connected! Today, the icing on the proverbial cake was a visit with a lovely lady who knew my dear Shirley. We reminisced about that sweet lady (gone for almost two years now) and both felt the love she so freely offered. It was an unexpected walk down Memory Lane and my heart embraced every moment.

The lesson for Lilly and myself might be to never underestimate the potential of pushing forward...even when the couch is so inviting. Every single Therapy Dog visit holds hidden gifts that would remain unopened if we didn't walk through those doors.

Life, in general, mirrors that philosophy. You will rarely be disappointed with the decision to greet the day and dive into the potential joys which await.
