Day 432
This boy is deathly afraid of thunderstorms! He cries, burrows, pants and uses every type of communication he can to let us know he is frightened. When we finally convince him he will survive, he leans into our love and settles down. Poor guy!
Today, there has been more than one instance where a loved one's fear, uncertainty or loneliness has erupted. As someone who loves them, my response has been to reassure and offer other avenues to alleviate their angst. It might not work for everyone, but my response to these people is an honest one. False hope and promises are no help. Supporting with love and becoming a cheerleader is usually what people need when their world is shaking beneath their own feet.
Advice comes in many forms, but I choose to consider the person and the root of their concern before offering any advice.
"Be honest.
*Discuss options.
*Assure them they have support.
*Try to find the root of their concern.
*Listen more than talk.
*Be their cheerleader!
*Stay involved. Be there.
*Offer your unconditional love.
Hoping any support offered helps to move my loved ones in the right direction. After all, advice and empathy can only go so far. The loved one is ultimately responsible for their own future. As for Ranger, he is an easy fix. I hold him, scratch his ears, love him and that seems to calm his fears.
I wish it was that easy for humans...
