Day 430
Are there any lengths we wouldn't go to for our furry family members? Not at this house!
Sam is still under surveillance after his neuter procedure on Monday. It might seem like this is easily done, but I beg to differ. Our little "Energizer Bunny" has been a challenge in regard to keeping him calm and resting. Due to a combination of personality and four-legged siblings, the healing process must be heavily guarded and nurtured.
For the past three nights, I have been his roommate in a downstairs bedroom. We took the dog bed out of his crate and added quilts on the floor for his comfort. Add his beloved, bedraggled Snuggle Puppy and our cozy campout could begin. The only problem is his "Cone of Shame" which is, basically, the width of our door frames. Even turning over, the poor patient knocks things off of tables and is challenged to find a comfortable position for sleeping. Did I mention that this huge, plastic monstrousity is also a magnet for anything Sam attempts to eat, sniff or even look at? It needs a constant wipe-down! It is all of that and more!
In frustration, I headed over to Chuck and Don's for support. A young man led me to a display of less archaic methods. I leaped at the opportunity to purchase a soft, smaller version of his "Torture Cone!"
Arriving at his Puppy Prison, I took off his neck shackles and placed the kinder, gentler cone around his neck. He looked at me as if to say, "Why?" and hung that big head of his. With a little love (OK...a lot of love) he tentatively began to move around without the crashes and booms.
He is blissfully sleeping now and I have visions of revisiting my own bed tonight!
Bless creative options!
Bless Chuck and Don's!
Bless the healing process!
Bless our big boy who has never once complained.
Although I would go to the ends of the earth to make his life more beautiful, I know he would go beyond that realm to please his mama.
