Day 43
6/23/22
Today seemed to be all about water! The day started out with watering the plants in the yard. You almost hear them drinking deeply as each go their turn in the shower. Then it was time to head down to the river with Gus for the first walk.
Meeting one of our favorites, Sharon chatted about a missed senior bus trip to visit the Amish. She had chosen not to go because she didn't want to spend that much time on a bus with a bunch of old people! She smiled at Gus, who was playing in a puddle while we visited. When we parted, she called back, "Gus had the right idea! I think I will walk through these puddles too!" We could hear her giggles as we left the 80-something friend to enjoy the water!
Back at the house, I switched to Lilly and Ranger, then headed out with Asher in tow. We walked down to the river again, and the two goldens headed right towards the bank. There is nothing, NOTHING they love more than swimming! I nudged them away and onto a decking overlooking the river. While they tried to conjure up a way to jump off, Asher and I marveled at the moving water. So many questions from that little man!
"Hey, Nanny! Where does the water go?"
"Hey Nanny! What is that bug doing?"
"Hey Nanny! Why is the river brown?"
"Hey Nanny! Can we throw rocks in the river?"
When he asked why there was foam on the top of the water, we headed up river to find the cause. Of course, I knew it was from water rushing over the dam, but I wanted him to come to that conclusion on his own! When he did, it was a beautiful moment of learning and bonding.
Then home to douse Lilly and Ranger with water to cool them off. Next, we dragged a pool, sprinkler and OLD Slip and Slide out of the garage for some cooling fun. Asher didn't know how to treat the slide, but he sure had fun trying to figure it out!
The day is coming to a close, but there is still time to water the plants outside before dark. Full circle...but a lovely circle filled with water, goldens and a little boy who warms my heart.
