Day 44

6/24/22

Today, it was almost too hot to do my walk, so I was quite open to anything that might catch my golden interest. As so often happens, serendipity arrived in the form of a Facebook post.

A few years ago, we were shopping for shoes at the hometown shoe store when we started up a conversation with another patron. We soon found out we had a love for dogs in common and that this woman had a shelter for senior dogs. Now THAT caught our attention!

She followed us home and we donated some dog food from the house and decided to make it a monthly event! We drove out to the sanctuary the next month with a bag and now simply let Amazon make the delivery.

Charlean's home is a perfect place for the angels she takes in. They have the run of the house, ramps, beds galore and the perfect outside play area. We were so very impressed! What really warmed our hearts was the fact that this woman takes in hurting, lonely, confused, elderly dogs with medical conditions. They were abandoned due to no fault of their own. Their new owner loves them, takes care of their physical needs and treats them as though they matter more than any dog in the world. They often don't have a lot of time left, but that time is spent surrounded by love and anything a doggy heart could desire! It has brought me to tears more than once.

Today, I saw a post that made me so proud of my daughter, Amanda and her husband, Matt. They were awarded a grant to help fund an outdoor wash station for these elderly pups. With the help of Dean's Home Services who donated their time, they are making a dream come true for Charlean and her babies. (Dean's has a real heart for animals and veterans, and will help them whenever they possibly can!)

I will add her post below. (Make sure you scroll to the end for a picture of the pups!) She is such an angel...right along with her crew of needy senior dogs! Thanks for all you do, Charlean! You are a hero!

From Old Barkers Farm Senior Dog Sanctuary:
My heart is beyond full today and I have to tell you why! I was recently contacted and asked “what does Old Barkers Farm need?” That’s a pretty big question when it comes to improving the property to accommodate senior dogs. I think someone saw Gunther’s antics after hitting the nearest mud puddle after his bath and thought; that girl needs to be able to wash her pack outside! So Deans Home Services stopped out today to evaluate the situation and will be back out on Tuesday to install a hot water line so I can have tempered water to bathe my pack outdoors! Deans Home Services are HUGE supporters of family, non profits/animal rescues and team up with Thrivent FinancialServices to make services like this available at no cost to the organization! I am always so awed by the support offered by people you don’t even know and the friends I have made along the dog rescue journey! I will be forever thankful for the chance meeting of Laurie Ann and Mac MacKechnie at a shoe store in Anoka back in early 2020! Not only do they faithfully donate dog food every month and bless me and my pack with so many other acts of kindness but It is because of them and now their daughter (Amanda Zagaros and her husband Matt) that all of this has come to fruition! I am just so darn blessed and grateful that I had to share my excitement and give kudos to everyone who is making this possible! Thank you for your support and believing in our senior dog sanctuary!
