Gus has a girlfriend! Today, she sent a message telling him she missed him and wished he could be looking out the window with her! He responded, "Go chase those things!" She told him her daddy wouldn't let her!

One of my dearest, oldest friends in the world brought a Golden home a few months before our Gus joined the family. Even though we live 1000 miles apart, we are still very close in spirit. Staying in touch through texting has been a joy, but it has morphed into our two Goldens texting each other almost daily.

Here is a sample of their missives:

Aubry:
Hi, Gus, Daddy blew in the top of a bottle and made funny noises. I decided to sing along. I'm actually very good. Daddy even said I was 'something else". That has to be good! Love, Aubry

Gus:
Aubry! Please send a video so I can howl along! My family thinks I am part hound dog, but I know I am 100% Golden! Licks, Gus

Aubry:
Gus, We'd sound wonderful together. My daddy thinks I am part deer! Tummy rubs, Aubry

Gus:
Yes! You are 'dear'! I agree! Mommy says I would have to sing soprano...whatever that is!

Aubry:
I think it has to do with gangsters. That is confusing! Love and licks, Aubry

Although we have given the messaging over to the pups, we both read between the lines when it is time to connect with the human pen pal. I treasure these daily messages. I treasure my friend.

Mac came into our lives when he became daughter Amanda's pen pal back in 1996. They wrote via snail mail and their bond is still eternally strong! Much later, when Amanda was in college, I joined the ranks of Texas pen pals with Mac. We used emails, but that didn't stop our friendship from growing!

Words are incredible, amazing and powerful. The written word can reach people's hearts when the spoken word is impossible or fleeting.

Cards, letters, emails, messaging...anything written...can be kept, savored and cherished for a lifetime.

I am glad Amanda and Mac were pen pals!
I am also glad that Gus and Aubry share that lovely ritual!
