Day 305
3/17/23
We are in the process of creating a "Walking With Goldens" book. Compiling all of the days and photos, we handed it off to our trusted friend, editor and publisher for her magical hand. She is working diligently on the first volume, but we had someone who needed the stories sooner than later. This very rough draft was made possible by my husband, #1 cheerleader and partner in crime! It felt surreal to hold it in my hands. It will soon go to a very deserving person.
We also received a beautiful note from a family at Walker Senior Residence today. a few months ago, Ranger and I had joined a Dignity Quilt Ceremony for a resident that had passed that morning. The family gathers to say good-bye and is joined by staff and friends. We were so honored to be invited and Ranger comforted so many who, as Asher would say, had their eyes watering. It was a beautiful memory.
Like most people, I find it is much easier to give than receive gifts. I enjoy shopping for just the right present to make someone happy on a special occasion. It warms my heart to see the recipient's smile and know I made them happy.
However, might that be a bit selfish? To enjoy the purchase AND the actual gifting seems like I get a two-for-one! Seriously, I DO love to share gifts with people, but must remember it is fun for others to give presents as well. Receiving is just as much fun, but not as easy for me. It often takes me by surprise and I have no planned reaction other than humility with a large dose of gratitude.
Giving and receiving certainly go hand-in-hand. In a sense, accepting a gift (or help) from someone is a way to make their world better too. Just ask a Golden. They only give with their entire heart and soul, but will gladly accept a dog treat when offered!
