Day 292

3/4/23

When we return home from any outing, all four Goldens act like we have been gone for MONTHS! It starts with Gus, who resides in the sunroom during our absences. He jumps to the window and barks an announcement to the rest of the pack. Next, we hear Sam from his post in the kitchen and finally Lilly and Ranger take up the charge from the living room where Hallmark entertains them. After they finally settle down, we tend to get "The Look" from the two elders. It is as if they are saying, "So, wherever you went is more important than your babies? You should be ashamed of yourselves!"

Tonight, we had the joy of another neighborhood extravaganza! Our cousins hosted a "Winter Picnic" complete with the thermostat turned up, hotdogs, potato salad, devil eggs and chocolate chip cookies! There were shorts, Hawaiian shirts and sandals galore and we were greeted with a lei when we walked in the door! The kids were treated to games and a scavenger hunt. Laughter, stories and hugs were all cherished! SO much fun!

This time of year can certainly be discouraging when the weather vacillates between COLD and snowstorms. Just when you get a glimpse of concrete on the driveway, another "snow event" arrives and it becomes a memory.

There are times when I feel the frustration rising to the brink. I try to stop and take a deep breath before the waves of "Minnesota Winter Angst" can really take hold. I am then able to focus on the heat of the sun this time of year. Daylight Savings Time is right around the corner. Robins are calling from the trees and signs litter the streets offering sign-up information for spring sports. These signs can't all be a hoax!

For now, I will try to enjoy what little we have left of our Minnesota winter and not wish my days away. It really is a beautiful time of year and the anticipation of warmer weather fills my heart with hope!

I guess I will put my shorts and sandals away for a couple more weeks. Before we know it, those summer clothes will be back on and we will be commiserating about the heat!
