Day 230

12/31/22

Today, there were walks with Goldens and then there was a WALK with Asher! I loved every paw print and boot print in the snow!

My grandson and I often go on adventures and today was no exception. We bundled up and headed out on a walk. I told Asher that he was in charge of all directions, so when he pointed to the right, we turned toward the river. Once there, he decided the plan now included the Kindness Rock Garden behind City Hall.

We went through the tunnel under the Main Street Bridge, commenting on the beautiful artwork displayed, and emerged to a number of surprises! First, there were hundreds of ducks swimming in a small slice of open water. We were amazed and enjoyed watching them until they all seemed to think we had food! A scene from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" infiltrated my mind. Luckily, they were following us by water and ice, so we felt pretty safe...only wishing we had brought something for them to snack on!

Stopping by the Rock Garden, Asher picked out a couple rocks for his parents and Papa and we eventually headed north up the river. Smiles lit both our faces as we came upon all of the holiday decorations along our path. I LOVE ANOKA!

Finally, turning south to head home, Asher stopped (one of MANY stops) to place his mittens in the snow. I asked him if he was making mitten prints and he said, "No, Nanny! I am making palm angels...you know...like body angels when I fall back in the snow, but little ones. People will see them and be happy!" My smile for the day!

In the hubbub and fast-paced world we are caught up in, what a glorious reminder that simple things can bring the most precious joy in our lives. Palm Angels, indeed!

When we were almost home, Asher said,

"Hey Nanny! It's a good day!"

I couldn't agree more!
