Day 2

5/13/22

Even though I had my goldens leading the way, I couldn't help but notice living creatures everywhere. Oh, the birds were singing, winging, swimming and hopping all around us.

A pair of swans startled all of us when they trumpeted overhead. Hummingbirds fought for their spot at the only feeder in our yard (I am honoring the request for no regular bird feeders due to the avian flu.). Robins were actually cocking their heads to listen for unsuspecting worms and cardinals called back and forth to their mates. Ducks flew overhead, swam next to the river shore and landed with a shake of their tails. What a wonderful cacophony!

My grandson and I had taken the suet feeders and cut lengths of yarn for bird nests. I actually saw a robin with a colorful strand clutched in its beak! The birds stole the show today!

I also have to give a quick nod to the many strangers and friends we passed along the path on this perfect morning. Each had an exchange that was so very Minnesotan. "This is why we live here!" Let's tuck this one away for next January!" "What a glorious day!" There was even one "You betcha" and even a "Don'tcha Know" amongst the responses!

Each interaction was accompanied by a pause to pet the dogs and comment on how wonderful they were. Lilly, Ranger and Gus were only to happy to stand their and wag their tails!

It was a great couple of walks this morning! Uff da!
