Day 3
5/14/22
Today, I took a very early walk along the river with our puppy, Gus. Now, this guy is quite the handful! He is loving, crazy, zoomy, unpredictable...or just an 11 month golden boy.
Our young man has sight in only one eye, so he tends to be startled easily. Noises, people, cars, squirrels, basically anything sends him into a frantic need to explore and react! Today, there was simply nothing to shake his confidence as we walked along without any humans, cars or other animals in our vicinity.
The quiet was wonderfully intense. With no interrupting noises, we were allowed to enjoy sounds not usually heard. The lapping of the river on a fallen branch, the soft chirping of small birds, our own footsteps (paw prances) and the distant hum of far off traffic did not interfere with any thoughts that arose. I counted the beautiful blessings around us and marveled at the spring green exploding on the branches. It was the epitome of serene.
I called Gus and he came to sit at my feet and looked expectantly at my face. I am not sure why, but we both looked slowly upwards. It was more a parting of the atmosphere or a strange breeze that had us freeze and stare. Right above us, an eagle glided through the air. I think we both held our breath. I know I did. We watched that regal bird until it disappeared down the river. One more glance at each other and Gus and I headed home. Changed, somehow, due to that shared experience. That crazy puppy simply trotted right next to my ALMOST all the way home. He is our "zoomy" golden puppy after all!
