Day 1049
It is no secret that I adore family recipes. When a loved one has no use for their incredible boxes full of “treasures” any longer, they often find their way into my hands. I value each and every one.
As much as I enjoy a good cookbook, these recipe boxes far surpass what you find in a book! Each is a veritable treasure chest of history.
They offer …
*Memories of days gone by
(Recipes shared at family gatherings)
*Special notations about cooking and baking
(References to “a pinch of salt” or “kneading until the dough no longer sticks to your hands”)
* Handwriting that floods the memories of your heart
(Pen to paper from loved ones no longer here)
*Dog-eared, finger prints and stains that tell their own stories
*A connection to your past loved ones that is almost visceral in nature.
So, for now, I am the keeper of the “treasure chests” and I love each and every card within. When I open a box, the joy that floods out warms my heart!
