Day 1048
Today was ‘Spa Day’ for our youngest pups. They came in from the backyard looking like …well, looking like they had a GREAT time! The preparations for the spa began!
Gus grudgingly went in first and had the full treatment. Ears, paws, face and everything else were treated to special shampoos and conditioners. Warm towels greeted him when he made his hasty exit. Sam was second and refused to enter the shower. With the help of Mac and a plethora of treats, we were finally successful. He was a much better customer and seemed to enjoy the treatments once the water hit hos back. Both have forgiven me at this point!
Bravery is such an interesting quality. The boys will bark at huge dogs, head out the doggy door into the dark and go right up to strangers with a wagging tail and a smile on their face. The shower, however, is another story. Even with their Mama beckoning and treats galore, it was a struggle! Settings, situations and past experiences seem to set the stage for hesitation and a bold step forward.
Bravery is not a lack of fear. To paraphrase others’ sentiments, “Bravery is being afraid, but going forward anyway.” We have all had those moments…
Today is “Vietnam War Remembrance Day.” My own veteran, along with others who served in that war, showed bravery that most of us will (thankfully) never experience. Because of those brave soldiers, and others throughout our country’s history, some of the fear has been taken out of our lives.
Tonight, two very clean Goldens will be snuggled up to their favorite veteran ehere they feel safe and calm. Sending a heartfelt thank you to those who served in Vietnam and showed bravery even though fear lived within. You are true heroes!
