Day 1038
Ranger went to Walker on a Therapy Dog visit this morning. He is the perfect gentleman…until it comes to food! Our last encounter always finds us at an apartment with a senior friend who gleefully cleans out her refrigerator with treats for the Goldens. On a normal day, I hold a bag while this sweet lady goes through her leftovers from the week. She tells a number of stories about the food item before dropping it into the waiting bag. Seven days of “bagged delectables” can sure add up! Once home, I pluck out a pancake or a piece of toast or two before “feeding” my trash can. Our friend cleans out her refrigerator (probably keeping her from a stomach catastrophe) and we bring home a treat or two. Everyone wins!
Today, however, our ‘Golden Oldie’ decided to take matters into his own paws. Watching the transfer of yummy treats, he waited for just the right moment before grabbing a burrito right out of her hand! It was gone before I could even give the “Drop It” command! Ranger has been on Tummy Watch for the rest of the day. So far, all is well and it hasn’t seemed to have any adverse affects! (His Nickname is Goatboy!)
My pup is not alone! I have been known to eat popcorn in excess more than once. When I complain of a “popcorn hangover,” my husband just smiles and shakes his head. Knowing I should have stopped about ten handfuls earlier doesn’t help at all. No guilt…only remorse.!
Why do we do anything to excess? Exercise, eating, shopping and a host of other choices can be challenging to corral when we simply want to keep going. One of my best strategies, to avoid excessive decisions, centers around an actual EXCESS…yarn! Having enough yarn to last me for years allows me to pick up some needles or a hook and start creating! My hands are busy, so I can’t eat, exercise, troll Amazon or make any other bad choices!
Perhaps I should teach Ranger to crochet!
