Day 1008

Our Miss Lilly spent the day at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinic. She has been dealing with serious kidney issues since last summer and we are doing our best to keep her with us with a good quality of life.

What lengths will people go to for those we love? Well, Thursday, we head back down to the University for some more tests. They told me to drop her off at 6 in the morning and they would call when she was awake from the sedation. I convinced them that wasn’t going to work. They offered me a room where we can wait together until she leaves for the tests. They will return her to me so I can be with her as the sedation resolves. They understand love.

When I drop Asher off at school, I always stand with a group of parents and grandparents who watch their cherubs until the backpacks rounds the corner. There are shouts of “Have a great day” and lots of waving hands. That is love.

Generations of Christian Hill Families have watched out for others… young and old. Taking care of the seniors, parenting everyone’s children, checking in when something seems amiss and much more. That, too, is love.

I could go on and on, but it seems to me that simply being there to hold a hand (or paw), dry a tear, bring a meal or any other kindness is a show of love. Don’t ever hesitate to reach out in an “understanding” of love… you won’t be sorry and neither will the recipient of that love.
