Day 1007

We love our ‘Halo of Goldens’! People sometimes ask, “How can you tell them apart?” To us, these four pups could not be more different, but we know them so well!

When my twins were little, I would be strolling down the sidewalk with those cuties in a double stroller. People would stop us and ask if they were twins. I would tell them that, yes indeed, they were twins…one boy and one girl. Almost EVERY TIME, the next inquiry would invariably be, “Are they identical?” That always brought a smile!

I have been compared to many individuals in my lifetime. One person suggested that I had the mannerisms of my Nanny. Another thought I looked like my dad. Someone else mentioned that I certainly resembled the Farriers (my maiden name), but the best was yet to come…

“You have your father’s eyes.” That simply stopped me in my tracks. I gladly embraced mannerisms, physical qualities and other comparisons, but my father’s eyes…that brought tears.

Dad had the bluest eyes I have ever seen, but more than that, those eyes exuded kindness and compassion. Watching him interact with others was a lesson I have tried to embrace throughout my life. His body language, his folded hands and absolute eye contact made the person sharing feel like they were the only person in his world….and, for that moment in time, they were.

So, embracing the statement about my father’s eyes was a gift to my heart. Perhaps it was the blue, but I hope it went beyond that. Learning at my father’s knee, I try to listen like the person sharing is the most important person in my world…and, for that moment, they are. I learned from the best!
