Day 985

The grass is always greener whether you walk on two legs or four! We have a plethora of fabulous dog beds littered around the house, but the Goldens prefer couches! We finally gave in and purchased washable covers for our furniture…worth every penny!

I have memories of looking over that imaginary fence in my life. Some of those longing glances were justified (leading to personal growth), but most might fall under the heading of “envy”… not a very admirable quality.

As a child, it seemed someone always had a better rock for hopscotch, a niftier “Nifty Notebook” or a fancier bike. I outgrew such trivial desires.

When I was a teen, someone always had better hair, a cuter outfit or a later curfew…these “wants” soon passed.

As an adult, there were vacations, cars, careers and other things that seemed so “green” as I looked over that fence, but then something amazing took place. The fence disappeared.

Today, my gratitude for what I have been given, my acceptance of life choices and the embracing of this life journey I am on all brought that fence tumbling down. It seems the older we become, the less envy erupts until it simply turns into happiness for those who find good fortune. After all, I am surrounded by enough gifts for a lifetime and I also have four Goldens…the grass is greener under my own two feet!
