Day 969
Today was a ‘mini-spa day’ for the Goldens at The Big White House. Nails and coats were the focus. Ranger was not pleased! All went well until we needed access to his tummy…nope! That big guy is a handful when he does not approve of a plan. We trimmed most of his belly “dreadlocks” with a clipper until he decided this event was over. He would NEVER growl, snap or even show his pearly whites, but we were afraid he would hurt himself as he writhed on the floor. You would think we were performing an appendectomy!!!! Poor buddy!
There are times when we all have to “undergo” activities that we don’t enjoy. For humans, we understand that a dentist is necessary for our teeth, but few of us would choose that activity for a Saturday night event!
However, even if we can make ourselves move forward when we know it is in our best interests, how do we help others to make good choices for their own lives? We can “suggest” good choices to loved ones until our faces turn blue, but the response from our family members and friends might just be a look that says, “I get to make that choice myself!” Of course, they have a point.
Our only sustainable option is to model good life choices. Not only healthy ones, but acts of kindness, benevolence and generosity. We may not be able to MAKE a loved one choose a path, but they just might follow us if we lead the way on life’s journey…except for Ranger!
