Day 944
There are times in your life when you take a moment to reflect on the many blessings surrounding you. Last night was one of those times. Closing in on three decades, The “Christian Hill Progressive Dinner” was held last night and my heart is still full of the love and compassion that has followed it through the years.
Our neighborhood is a special place. The generational connection, the true caring for others and the positve energy abounds!
We have a number of relatives who live within the borders with two sets of grandparent/grandchildren who can see each other’s front door (not to mention a few cousin connections). This leads to safe foot travel from one home to the next! How beautiful for both generations!
We all are well-acquainted with our neighbors and share joys and concerns freely. If there is a need for support with a younger member of the crew, parents feel free to call one of the retired members to fill in or pick up! Walkways are shoveled, baked goods are shared and trust abounds!
As for the positive energy… if you could measure that level by laughter, it would be off the charts! Add in a willingness to assist each other and a few hugs and you have a home like no other!
Could it be duplicated … absolutely! Simply reach out to neighbors and plan a few get -togethers, shovel a walk or two, celebrate a birthday now and then and open your heart to those who live around you.
It’s a bit like that Amish bread starter. You make some dough, but keep a portion of the starter material. There is enough to share, but also enough to keep making your own bread. Neighborhoods are so unique. Each one has their own “bread recipe” that works for them!
Even the Goldens seemed to enjoy looking out the window when we were walking from house to house! It was a memorable for all!
