Day 941
Today brought Ranger and me to one of our favorite venues! We get to read with first graders!!!! On this blustery day, the students had “inside recess,” but still listened avidly to the book I shared. Three of the four classes we visited even applauded when I turned the last page! These children bring so much light to my life and Mr. Ranger spends his time napping and being loved on by the children.
When books are shared aloud with young readers, there is a certain magic in the air. The listeners seem to be transported right into the story! Their eyes are lost in the pictures and their smiles or laughter erupt at just the right moments. It seems that “make-believe “ is not much of a stretch for children of that age.
Actually, as a reader, I am often so engrossed in a story that it is sometimes challenging to return to reality. The setting and characters remain with me long after I turn the last page!
As a child, the world of “pretend” was just a breath away. Now, as an adult, that world is harder to visit ….unless I am reading a good book! Then, I can transport anywhere in the world, travel to different time periods and almost take on the persona of most characters in literature. No wonder books mean so much to me!
My sweet golden appreciates a good book as well…they put him right to sleep!
