Day 90

8/12/22

CREEPY CAMP! Yes, at our house, it was a thing this year!

Grandson Asher had the privilege of attending two camps at our neighborhood Lutheran church preschool this summer. First, there was Space Camp and next came Farm Camp. He loved both experiences!

We were walking the goldens shortly after the second camp when Asher said, "Hey, Nanny! I went to Space Camp and Farm Camp. Do you wanna know what's next? CREEPY CAMP!"

Well, I laughed and played along for a bit. We discussed what a Creepy Camp would be like and, the more we chatted on that walk, the more the camp took on a life of its own! Even Lilly and Ranger seemed to look interested when we discussed the menu.

On the heels of our wonderful "Golden" event at the Ticknor house, I dug in my heels and embraced Creepy Camp.

Knowing the idea had taken flight, we had already had hats made for the participants. Other than that, Asher and I planned, baked and decorated for the event throughout the day.

We had balloons, cupcakes, glowing pumpkins, table decorations AND a haunted house! Asher spent almost two hours creating the work of art using paints, markers, tape and glue. It was fun to watch him work and discuss options as it started to look more and more like a scary place.

After a couple field trips dedicated to creepiness, we opened a few scary gifts and turned to the pizza and cupcakes (made by Asher and Nanny). Eventually, it was time to clean up and disperse the treasures of the night.

It was decided that the haunted house would accompany daughter Katie home to reside in a place of honor on the mantle. After we disconnected the lighting, and as Kate took a closer look, she suddenly began to laugh from the bottom of her being.

Still laughing, she said, "Mom! I thought you had gone to the craft store to buy special mesh or something for the smoke around the house. IT'S DOG HAIR!"

Of course, she was correct! When asked if I had been saving it for days, I admitted that I had simply walked around and picked it up off the floor this very day! Everyone got a pretty good laugh over that!

Golden fluff is everywhere at our house! I simply decided to put it to good use. I knew that Ranger, Lilly and Gus would love to be part of the festivities! Every part of a golden is good for something...even the "fluff!"
