Day 894

Today, we had people we love around the table as we shared time and food together before heading out to the Halloween Parade. Each year, a tradition has been embraced and an entire day has emerged filled with many we hold dear. It was such a beautiful day!

Of course, our Goldens were in the mix from time to time. When the youngest loved ones were out of harm’s way, we would free the beasties and let them love the adults. However, most of their day was confined to the sun room or other “safe zones” and they practically exploded onto the scene when the last guests departed. Since that time, they have not left our sides.

Their devotion is always humbling, but our devotion to them is just as deep. They are a comfort and joy. It makes me wonder how this bond has formed. Of course, it is the hours, days and years we have with one another, but it’s more than that. The trust, affection and love help make that bond eternal.

Today, a dear friend had to say goodbye to her sweet Golden. Gracie was 15 and lived the best life a dog could dream of. Perhaps the years make it harder to part, but those years also offer multitudes of memories that never leave our hearts. I only met Gracie once, but she will always be part of my heart.

Humans or dogs… if we can leave that amount of love behind with those who shared our devotion, then the world never loses that love. It simply goes on in the hearts of others who then share that gift. I like that thought.

Parade Day with loved ones, devoted dogs and love that continues forever in our hearts…whether we are near or far away. That love is here to stay.
