Day 884
Whenever I talk about my Goldens, there are always glowing terms and amazing stories for the oldest three. Finally, I finish by telling people that our youngest, Sammy, is quite the handful. His energy level and enthusiasm for life is off the charts!
Now, training has gone extremely well for our boy. He can do all of the commands:
Sit!
Heel!
Come!
Stay!
Down!
Wait!
Leave it!
You name it, he has mastered it...until there is a squirrel, dog, human, leaf, dragon fly or any other interesting, moving target. Then, all training goes out the window and his brain seems to empty of all knowledge. He morphs into 100 pounds of pure energy and glee!
Gus was the same beast as a puppy, so I know Sam will mature eventually. However, it certainly is taking more time with this boy!
Then I got to thinking...I am going to miss Sammy's exuberance and spontaneity. I might just long for the days when his energy level made me laugh with delight, while his puppy personality seemed to make the world just a little brighter. I know that day will come, but right now, I would be content with a little bit more predictability from our "Crazy Boy!"
There have been times, in all of our lives, when we wanted "something" to hurry up and change. Perhaps it was when our children were being "potty trained" or when that retirement date seemed far off in the distance. No matter the life event, I can almost bet that we look back and miss parts of whatever we wished would change just a little bit faster. I, for one, would give so much to change that diaper again or be there for the first day of a new school year.
As we watch and wait for our wishes to come to fruition, it might be a good idea to take a few mental notes along the way. The day will come when we miss the past...even Sammy's crazy antics! I guarantee there will be more smiles as we remember than when we are living through it!
