Day 843

Twins seem to run in the family!!!

34 years ago, Jimmy and Katie arrived! 11 years ago those twins welcomed our Golden twins! It is a bit like winning the lottery.

Both “sets” grew up with a built-in playmate and all four have been a joy! Although daunting, when I first learned that there were two babies on the way, it was also exciting!

During their first few months and years, people would ask me how I was surviving. I often answered that they were almost easier than a single child. With a built-in playmate, our days were full of joy.

Of course, like any life there was double the teething, ear infections and clothing, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

I spent time with a young friend today who has been through so many trials. She shared a bit of what life was dishing out right now and it was a bit overwhelming. However, when I offered my support, she said, “Everyone has their own burdens to carry.” Promising to reach out for our help with ANYTHING she needed, our friend moved on with a beautiful smile and determination in her step.

We all have something we are battling. Some of these challenges are evident, while others are hidden deep within. As my Goldens continue to share their calming presence with many people, at the other end of the leash, I wonder what trials those individuals are dealing with…whether on the surface or a bit deeper. Even without a leash in my hand, I try to see beyond anyone’s facade and open my heart to any small amount of help I can offer.

Twin babies or twin puppies… I realize some challenges are filled with joy. For those we meet, who might be fighting battles that do not bring happiness, offering a smile, a hug or a listening ear might just make someone’s burden a little lighter.
