Day 834

We are FINALLY seeing a light at the end of the tunnel…and it’s not a train! Whatever “water mites” the Goldens picked up in the lake have finally released their grip and healing is going well. Ranger was the first to suffer with welts and hot spots and he was the first to make a recovery! That meant we could head back to Mercy Hospital.

He charmed many a patient and staff member as we meandered from floor to floor. As we rounded a corner towards the Heart Center, something told me to check on a friend we hadn’t seen for some time.

Heading back to her office, we entered, hugged and she welcomed some Ranger love. She shared a brief update about her family and then had the saddest look on her face. I asked her if she needed to share more and, with tears in her eyes, she opened up about her nephew who died when he dove into shallow water a few days ago. Ranger and I had the opportunity to help carry her sadness for a bit. The funeral was today. We visited for a bit longer and then we left. We will be checking on her from now on.

How did I know this person needed some Golden love? This happens to us now and then and I am always in awe of the serendipity.

My take away…if you feel an urge to reach out to someone, do it! Make the call. Write the card. Get in the car and go. When I get that urge, connecting always proves to be the right move.
