Day 831
When it rains, it pours! That has been our last five days with our Goldens. Although we are beyond grateful that none of their ailments are life-threatening, we now have an infirmary on our hands.
*All four on oral antibiotics
*Three on topical antibiotics
*Antibiotic eye drops for Gus
*One puppy t-shirt
*Two cones
*Hot spots everywhere
Tthree Cytopoint shots
We are also needing to keep an eye on them at all times. If they are not licking their own wounds, they are licking the nearest sore!
As we love them through this episode, I remember other times when my hands were full. When my kids were little (the twins were two), I decided it was time to get my final degree at the University of Minnesota. Teaching days, “studenting” at night, I still found time to go to the kids' activities, make lunches, monitor homework, lay out everyone’s clothes for the next day and still find time to sleep at night! I imagine my 30’s and 40’s were much like everyone else’s, but it seemed to be “pouring” rain now and then.
Looking back on those days, I wouldn’t have changed much! Everything I did was a choice and I loved all of the hats (mom, student, teacher) I wore.
Having four dogs is a choice as well. I love each one beyond measure, so I would do it again in a heartbeat! When I get up in the morning, I don’t think, “Today, I have to do…” Instead, I rise and say, “Today, I get to do…”. We all have choices and most are a blessing in the end!
For now, I will guide the Goldens to health again and not regret a moment of caring for them. They are four of my favorite choices in life!
