Day 825
Peace…sometimes it is an elusive goal.
The Goldens find it everywhere…me, not so much.
It occurred to me that, with a background in research, I should study their habits, environment and attitudes. These pups know something that I have trouble grasping.
To begin with, I watched their habits and discovered they all have commonalities when at peace. When at their most peaceful, they are near their humans. Not only near, but touching or facing their loved ones. Of course, this allows them to be aware of any movements so they can follow and find peace again.
When absolutely calm, their placement is wherever the soft beds are. At The Big White House, that is in practically every room. They also like to burrow under tables, human legs or the piano. This must be a throwback to their ancestors finding shelter in the wild.
Finally, their attitudes are free of worry. When we leave, if a doorbell chimes or other unsettling occurrence presents itself, they rally to protect, but otherwise, they don’t seem to fret about anything!
The recipe for peace:
*Don’t worry about things that are not in the present or out of your control.
*Exist in a place that is cozy, warm and safe.
*Surround yourself with loved ones.
It is a tall order, but something to keep in mind. Even though I will continue to worry about things out of my control, I can be home with my loved ones and find peace there. Four big dogs help!
