Day 808
These two besties have an incredible amount of energy!!! They run, rough house, roll around and blissfully tire each other out! During their “play sessions," there have been times when an injury has occurred. When an adult appears to sort it out, they defend each other to the death! Best friends indeed!
I have often lamented the fact that adults need that kind of energy! As a senior citizen, slowing down is not an option we choose…it’s our reality! Just when we need it the most, our energy begins to wane. Where is the fairness???
Seriously, the amount of physical energy expended by humans is inversely proportional to age. It does not make a very reassuring line graph. Where the two lines cross must be at about 25 or 30. After that, muscles, stamina and energy levels go the wrong direction!
However, the receding amount of energy seems to be replaced by an expanding portion of wisdom and an ability to “think before you leap” attitude. In tandem, these two qualities make for a more refined development of decision-making capabilities. For example, when I was young, I didn’t take the time to calculate and calmly plan a course of action. With energy to spare, I would charge down the path that glowed the brightest!
These days, I have the luxury of making plans slowly…mulling over past successes and failures and choosing the path that will embrace success. That just might be the definition of burgeoning wisdom. A lack of vast energy allows you to think with your heart, mind and memories.
As much as I miss having a crazy amount of energy, I will embrace a calmer outlook on life and leave “The Zoomies” to the likes of Sweet Asher and his best friend, Sam!
