Day 804
One of the activities that Asher and I enjoy is watching Mark Rober on YouTube. Using that program as a reward after our reading time, we snuggle in to learn about science.
Today, we settled on his video about a backyard maze for squirrels. Not only was this vastly entertaining, it gave me an entirely new respect for their intelligence. We don’t stand a chance with our own bird feeders when these rodents are in town!
As I walked into the kitchen to make lunch, I glanced back at my Goldens who happened to be in a lineup. They don’t have a conniving bone in their entire bodies! They are no match for the neighborhood squirrels… but neither am I!
Growing up, I must admit I was quite naive about many things. On the continuum between being honest and conniving, I fell way to the side of sincerity. There were times when I watched with envy as a friend would achieve their goal by being “squirrel-like." Many times it was for the good of the order, but I was not capable of working that way. My conscience has always worked overtime, so I maybe missed a few opportunities, but I don’t think I will change anytime soon!
Conniving or not, those squirrels made it happen! As for me and my Goldens, we will simply plod along and hope that we deliver the “bird food” in a more straightforward way! Still…those squirrels might have a few tricks I might learn from!
