Day 704

There has been a long-standing request for Gus to come to Norbella. This senior home lovingly greets Lilly each week, but they wanted a Gus visit. With trepidation, I loaded him in the car and we were off!

As we parked in the lot, I started playing a worst case scenario in my head.

*What if he gets Zoomy?

*What if he put his paws up on a lap?

*What if he won't approach all the residents?

*What if eats something off the floor?

*What if there are other dogs?

WHAT IF !?!?!?!?

After all that worrying, he was a Rock Star! He impressed me beyond measure and humbled me with his success. The staff and residents fell in love and, although they missed Lilly, they begged for his return.

My lesson was evident: Instead of 'What-iffing', have some confidence. My expectations should have led me to believe in my Golden Boy instead of doubting his success!

Having great, positive expectations for others, makes you the best cheerleader around. Instead of being hesitant and doubtful, believe in the one who is trying their hardest to be successful! Gus was ready for this!

It is hard to let our loved ones fly solo! We want to make everything perfect so their success is secured. There is a fine line between support and simply being in the way of their flight! We learn so much from our mistakes.

Allowing Gus the freedom to make a missed paw step or two was part of his learning experience today. Taking that step backwards was a challenge for his Mama! We both grew today!
