Day 702
Lilly's devotion for her beloved harmonica - playing - centurion knows no bounds! After a few scary days (seriously touch and go), where Ranger visited him in the hospital, he was moved to a lovely place for rehabilitation. Finally, it was Lilly's turn to visit him today and the reunion was heartwarming. She loves that man!
After reconnecting for some time, the harmonica came out and the concert began! Lilly, at his feet, seemed delighted...the humans in the room certainly were!
There was a smile on his face when I suggested he was like a cat with nine lives...adding this time was only his 5th or 6th! Before we left, I told him how much we loved him and how happy we were that he was doing better. His response was, "Well, I am just going to have to work real hard at getting better!"
Talk about a wonderful attitude!!! At 100, he is ready to work hard with his medical team to fight his way back. He amazes me!!!! He humbles me!!!
Thinking back to challenges in my own ( younger) life, where I simply had to clench my teeth and put one foot forward at a time, his recovery is just short of a miracle. Yet there he was...ready to fight the good fight.
The lesson here is "Don't Give Up!" If the mountain seems too high or the ocean too deep, keep trying. Set that goal and move forward with a smile on your face and a song in your heart...just like our amazing 100-year-old WWII hero!
