Day 696
Today was our day to head to Oxbow Elementary where we read with the first graders. Spending 15 minutes with each classroom on the schedule, Ranger waits while I read to the students and then he gets to interact with the children. He loves those kids!
When we first enter, the office staff calls out a welcome to our sweet boy and some even come into the hall for a moment of Golden Love. Heading to our first classroom, there are so many children who call out his name or ask for a quick pet on his big head along the way. On to his beloved Sara for the required dog treat and then numerous encounters as we wind our way to the first meeting. We hear his name countless times and many hands reach out to simply touch that soft fur. He is a 'Fan Favorite' and known by all.
Today, as I marveled at the love bestowed upon this big dog, I realized there were some very good reasons for his 'Rock Star' status.
*He greets everyone with a smile and a tail wag.
*He accepts everyone without judging.
*He shares his affection freely.
*He has no ulterior motive.
*He isn't needy.
*His eyes show only trust.
*He doesn't want anything...only gives .
*His happiness is contagious.
*He is soft and huggable.
With these traits, his popularity is absolutely understandable! In the words of his dear Sara, "Ranger, you are the Bestest Boy!"
I have often said I should strive to be more like my Goldens. Humans simply can't be as wonderful as dogs...but we can always try!
