Day 666
We have a new working Therapy Dog in the family! Mr. Gus headed over to Walker and was instantly loved and embraced into the 'family' there. He was amazing with each interaction and made his Mama proud AND relieved! Even though his evaluation was already in the books, it was great to see him in action!
We did make a stop at one of our favorites! Sonny was surprised to see me on a different day with a different dog! It only took a moment for him to grab the dog treat box and snuggle up with Gus on the floor! He shared a story that warmed my heart and restored my faith in humanity.
Wearing, as he usually does, a ''US Army Veteran' ballcap, he was shopping at Walmart for a few items for his sweet wife. Like all of us, he was lured into buying some unexpected additional items. Feeling like he had placed enough in his cart, he headed towards the register. When the final amount reached $150, he reached for his credit card to pay. Realizing he had not brought it along, he told the cashier he only had a hundred dollar bill. Profusely apologizing to the man next in line, he started to take items out of the bags. The gentleman behind him said, "No need to do that! I would like to make up for the difference. I was in the service years ago and this is my way to thank you for your service."
Sonny thanked him over and over and was still humbled by his kindness the next day. It was a kind gesture for a sweet senior citizen. I had tears in my eyes as he told me his tale.
Humans can be so ..HUMAN at times! What a blessing to my senior friend. What a blessing to everyone who sees or hears about such kind acts.
Through the long story, my newest Therapy Dog trained his one good eye on his newest friend with adoration. It was a wonderful first experience!
